4 Symptoms That You Shouldn’t Ignore

Not one person enjoys being ill or worrying that they’re suffering from an underlying condition. We all have the normal aches and pains that come with aging, but sometimes there is another reason that we may not be feeling ourselves. How many times have you noticed something wrong with your health and thought, I’ll just wait it out, especially during this past year of the pandemic? Most of the time, whatever is ailing probably isn’t a big deal, but sometimes it is. There are certain symptoms that just shouldn’t be ignored, and if you ever find yourself questioning what your body may be telling you, make sure you get in contact with your health professional. Here are just a few of those symptoms.

1. Rapid Weight Loss

While most of us could afford to lose a pound or two, we should never be losing a vast amount of weight in a short period of time. If you find those extra pounds are just melting away, this could be a cause for concern and make you aware that you should call your doctor. Losing ten pounds or more for no reason could be a sign that something is wrong, such as a physical or mental illness. Unknown weight loss should be concerning, and a good rule of thumb is that if you lost more than five percent of your body weight within one year, you should take it up with your doctor.

2. Chest Pain

We all make those jokes about having a heart attack after our spouse jumps out and surprises you. But if you feel any form of shortness of breath or chest pain, you should immediately dial 911. Any heaviness on your chest can be a sign of a heart attack, especially if you also have left arm pain. Likewise, if you find you are short of breath, suffering from jaw pain, or nauseous, this could also be a sign of heart issues. So, don’t waste any time, and immediately call 911 or get to an emergency room.

3. Sudden Weakness

While it’s okay to be tired, you should worry if you suddenly feel weak or exhausted. There is more cause for worry if you feel these symptoms in your legs, arms, or one side of the body since it could indicate a stroke. Looking at a symptom checker will show you that facial drooping, speech issues, and confusion are also issues you should look out for. These symptoms have major health implications and should be taken seriously. If you also feel dizzy and struggle to maintain balance, you should seek immediate medical attention.

4. Feeling Down

The feeling of immense sadness and loneliness has hit an all-time high, thanks to the worldwide pandemic. But if you find you have ongoing, extreme sadness, this could be a symptom of depression. If you find that you’re going through extreme highs and lows, these signs should never be ignored. At the same time, you may not have the energy to call the doctors you need to. A medical professional will be able to direct you to the correct treatment and get you back on track.

You are your own best cheerleader when it comes to your health and well-being, so don’t be afraid to speak up if something feels wrong. Of course, only you know exactly what feels right and wrong for you. But with these symptoms and explanations, you’re more equipped to seek medical help or advice when or if the time comes. It also doesn’t hurt to schedule a yearly physical, so you and your doctor can keep an eye on your ever-changing health charts and issues.
